Smelly Applicants!!

Maybe I just need to vent a little today but why do applicants show up for interviews with poor body odor....

I had an applicant show up at our door yesterday to respond to an ad I placed. This person was dressed in a nice shirt and tie (which is better than most)and seemed to have quite a few qualifications I was looking for so I scheduled an interview for 9:00 this morning. Today he shows up in jeans, an older shirt and doesn't smell the greatest. To top it off the interview/testing process takes about 1 1-1/2 hours and is done in my office WITHOUT windows. NOT GOOD!!

I have another interview this afternoon so maybe I'll get lucky and this one will "bathe" in cologne and "drown out" the odor left by the last one!

I've had just a few like this....most of them drown you out with cologne. I guess they are trying to cover up the BO! I guess if you turn green and gag into your trash can, they will get the message.

Sounds like if this were in TN, you could tell the applicant that based on they body odor, they don't meet the job requirements, and end the interview right there.

I think you would at least be thankful that it makes your hiring decision and that they could not hide their poor judgement (inappropriate dress) through the second interview. Sorry we have selected a candidate that is a better fit....

If an applicant M/F shows up in jeans, old shirt,smelly - tell them to come back the next day in a suit and tie / or dress . I once knew an engineer that was sent home before an interview , came back the next day clean and freshened-up - and got the job!

I had a female applicant earlier this week that smelled so bad it took over an hour of burniing candles for the smell in my office to return to anything near normal.
