Motor Vehicle Reports - Do I need them or NOT?

Do I have to get an MVR (Motor Vehicle Report)on every new hired ee or only on ones that may or may not drive the company vehicle (ex: to a seminar)? Do I have to get one if they drive their own vehicle? Should they drive the company vehicle or their own? Which is the safest route to go? ?????

Thanks for your input.

  • We run them only on staff who will be "driving on the clock". We do them over the internet and it is fairly simple. All our employees drive their own cars. We also require proof of current insurance as their insurance is primary in event of an accident. The organization may always risk some liability of course.
  • Here in NY you can do them for free on the internet and it only takes about 2 minutes to complete. I also agree that you should only do them on employees who will be driving on company time. Company vehicles are expensive to maintain, I would look at paying milage to your ees that use their own vehicles. I think the current IRS rate is about $0.36/mile.
