Terming incarcerated employee

We have an employee who is being incarcerated for his 2nd or 3rd DUI. The jail time is 2 weeks to start today (when he first told us of this, we asked if he could have his attorney push the time back for work reasons). This is one of our busiest times of year and we can't afford to hold the job open for 2 weeks. We have decided to term the employee, but how do we tell him? Do we send a letter to him in jail?
