CONSULTANT VS INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

What would you say the difference is between a consultant and an independent contractor? Is it what they call themselves, but it can be one and the same...or is there some definition somewhere?

Thanks

  • This isn't scientific or anything, but I think it's all in what they call themselves, and a consultant is generally an independent contractor. They usually are alike in the way you pay them; not on the payroll. But, I'd say that a consultant generally tells you how to do your work better/different, etc, and an independent contractor actually does some of your work that you don't have the time, expertise, equipment, willingness, etc to do.
