Wants to Bring Back Eliminated Position.

In December of 2002 our general manager moved an outside sales position at our California location to the midwest. He left the company shortly after that. The new general manager feels that was not a good strategy and wants to leave the midwest position but try again with an outside sales person in California. Are we under any obligation to find and rehire the person who was in that position but did not want to relocate?

If he had performance issues previously, then I would not rehire. If he meets the qualifications of the job, then consider him.
