Child labor - warehouse

Hi all

Summer is here and parents want us to employ their kids....

Does anyone have the quick answer about whether a 17 year old can work in a warehouse? His duties could entail operating a fork lift, pallet jack and shrink wrap binding machine. I know there are restrictions out there for the under 16 group on a federal level. I wasn't sure about a 17-year old. He would be based in Indiana. Thx

Call your workers compensation carrier. They should have the answer.

Even if allowed, I would not allow any 17 year to operate a fork life, pallet jack etc. It's just too dangerous.

Even if allowed, I would not employ employee's kids for the summer.

The forklift is definitely out, per OSHA.

I'm not sure if this is state specific but in Oregon "Power-driven hoisting apparatus and lifts are prohibited under 18 = H.O.#7"

I took this directly from the Certificate to employee minors that must be posted in each location where minors are working. :-S
