Infection Control Training

Our company has close to 700 employees. We are currently conducting Infection Control Training at new employee orientation for all new employees, and then mandating yearly refreshers. We are trying to be OSHA compliant. I know we have to offer this to all workers in positons that might have a reasonable expectation of exposure, such as all medical personnel, service providers, (health care), janitorial workers and such. What do other people see as reasonable expectation of exposure for positions like clerical workers, retail store personnel, truck drivers, human resources staff, and public relations staff? Is it safer to require everyone to redo every year?

Is your company a medical faciltiy where the average worker would be likely to come into contact with infectious material?

We are a private rehabiltation facility. Many workers do need the training such as health care and counselors. But I was wondering if human resources staff and clerical workers would need this training updated every year. We are currently requiring our retail store workers to get yearly updates as well. The director of retail states that other retailer do not require this of their staff, and we are providing overkill. What do you think.

I would agree that it is probably overkill. We are a financial institution and we provide training to our medical response team, but not anyone else. I don't think that HR and clerical staff, etc, would be at that much risk.

I agree. Clerical, HR and such do not need the Infection Control training, but we do have those individuals take the safety training at enrollment and ALL staff are required to participate in the Safety Training.

Every one of our new employees gets infection control at Orientation, but only EE's who have direct contact with clients get the yearly refresher. Administrative folks do not.
