Paperwork for cost of living increase

What is the best practice for recording in the personnel file cost of living raises? Should a change form be filled out for each ee and placed in the personnel file?

  • I think this depends on the size of your company. When I worked for an organization with 3000 people, we used a computer printout showing the before raise rate of pay, the raise amount, and the after raise rate of pay. We then could note exceptions either on the printout or file with the print out. (i.e. top of scale)

My current employer has 170 employees and we don't have the technology for a printout - so we will use an individual form for each employee. Bummer - but I like documentation when it comes to personnel files!
