South Dakota

After being on the road for two weeks, it took me hours to read through The Forum and try to catch up. But the trip was worth it. I met two of the Forum members "live and in person" when I was speaking at the Arkansas State SHRM Conference.

In my never ending quest to meet other Forumites, I'm back on the road again and will be doing the kick-off keynote speech for the South Dakota State SHRM Conference in Rapid City, South Dakota. If any of you Forumites are going to be there, please come up and introduce yourself.

  • Margaret, it seems like you're always in the central part or southern part of the country. Don't you ever catch a break and actually get to go to a GOOD part of the country? Oregon, Washington, etc.? x;-) I am just kidding, of course.
  • Luckily, it's the people I like so much and not the places. The travel is pretty grueling, but most of my clients will not move to Nashville! I will get to see Mount Rushmore when I'm there. It's not my first trip to South Dakota. I did some work with a gold mining company there, but it was way out in the middle of nowhere. They offered to give me a tour, which was fascinating, but I knew I was in trouble when the directions included instructions "to turn left after the road runs out and look out for the trucks!"

  • Take me please, I'll be a client and move to Nashville, a lifelong dream of mine would then be complete! =P~
  • Please move your business to Nashville. All my Nashville clients get a discount because I'd don't have to pack a suitcase to come see them!

  • Tell you what, Margaret. You can have my job and go around to all our locations doing the training that I've been doing each quarter. That way you'd get to see Seattle, Bellingham, Newport, Mt. Hood, Missoula... (I hate travel!)
  • Don't even start. I'm on the road at least three days a week teaching, speaking and working with clients. One week I did four cities in five days and hit both coast twice. (My Big Dog tongue was hanging out at the end of that week!) One of my favorite clients in located in Ephrata, Washington. So I fly to Seattle and drive three hours to get to them. My clients in Detroit and Minneapolis always want to see me in December and January and my clients in Florida and Arizona always want to see me in July and August! If I didn't love the clients and the work so much, I'd tell that Margaret Morford I quit. She's a monster to have as a boss. She pays everyone else before she pays me and then only if there's money left over!

  • I am with a financial institution in Pierre, South Dakota. Unfortunately, I will not be at the state SHRM conference, but wish I had the opportunity to meet you.

Enjoy our fair state -- what we don't have to offer in culture and shopping is made up by our quality of life and the people who live here!
  • I'm sorry to miss you, but am looking forward to meeting the people. The most helpful rental car person I ever got was in South Dakota. When I went to thank him for his help, I looked at his name tag and it said "Running Bear." I must admit I was a little atartled since we don't have a lot of names like that in Tennessee. If he had been from Tennessee, he would have most certainly had a double name like Bubba Running Bear!
