I would like to initiate a policy of requiring new employees to wear a red vest as a reminder to more seasoned employees that they should assist the red vested employees in safety practices.
Do you think this would be discriminatory or make the new employee feel less important.

I don't care for it, myself. Sometimes "newbies" have a hard enough time without being blatently labeled as such. What about a reversal? Honor the more seasoned ee with something distinguishing. The newbies would know who to ask and the seasoned folks would feel recognized.

I joined a HR association that required the new members to wear a blue ribbon under their badge. This way the senior members could take the new ones under their wing and introduce them around. Hated every minute. Skipped meetings. I finaly told the President how I felt and soon learned that I was not the only one. That ended that tradition. Don't make the new guy any more stressed then he already is.
