what is an employers financial responsibility when terminating an alien employee who the employer sponsored?

    Regrettably, we had this situation late last year. The employer is obligated to pay the return trip for the alien. All sorts of 'humanitarian' issues arise; like maybe his family is now here visiting, maybe he's strapped for cash and has a car he has to sell, maybe he has a lease on an apartment, and on and on. We did what the law required and booked a one-way to Peru. The rest was up to him. He chose to go to Florida from our place in Mississippi and he has found other work, I've heard. The H1-B isn't really portable, but he's on his own hook with that! We did what our immigration-attorney told us was the law.
