Record Retention Schedule

I am cuurently putting together a Record Retention Schedule. I am curious if scanned documents are sufficient enough to stay in compliance? I scan my timesheets weekly is it okay to destroy the originals? Is it okay to scan other items like I-9's, W-4's, etc.? Thanks.

  • I checked this with an employment law firm. Apparently there are differences from state to state. In WV we can scan any and all documents. By personal preference the only original documents that I keep in a physical record are the orginal application and the W4. I keep the original application because it includes a signature block attesting that all information in the application is accurate.
