Release of Personnel Records

If a former employee signs a consent to release all personnel information to a specific pospective employer (a Police Department), do we have to release it. If we do, do we have to release garnishments, child support orders, etc.? This former employee was very litigious and I would prefer to give name, rank and serial number type info only. HELP!

I would release only work related information if I had a signed authorization.

A signed authorization to release information, isn't a REQUIREMENT or a mandate for you to release it. It only allows you to release what your policy deems pertinent to release. I wouldn't release a personnel file to any employer, not the FBI, and certainly not the local police department.
