Unsolicited resumes via e-mail

This is becoming a major issue with me and with some of the other department mangers. Should the other managers forward the resumes to HR and let them respond or do you think it would be acceptable if HR gives the other managers the verbiage to use and let them respond to the e-mail? Our response in this type of situation is that we have no openings that fit your qualifications. What are you all doing? Do you print and keep the resume? Thanks for your time. I respond and keep a copy of all resumes. Email resumes are the easiest ones to do!

Generally, I find unsolicited email resumes the most annoying of all the possibilities. For that reason, among others, I feel under no obligation to respond to any of them and certainly am under no illusion that I should keep them, both of which can trigger obligations (filing, retention, consideration, EEO, continued dialog). If, however, I do see one of particular emphasis for future consideration, I just might print it and file it away somewhere. Otherwise, they are junk mail. What really irks me is the one line cover letter to whom it may concern - see attached resume, no mention of field of interest. On the rare occasion when I click on the attachment, it invariably is in some form I don't work with or I have to search through nine miles of 'stuff' to determine field of interest. I compare these to throwing leaflets out of a crop duster on a rainy day.
