Babies in kitchens

Does anyone know how I can find out whether it's legal to have a baby in a kitchen while mom the cook works? It's a big kitchen that serves meals to 100+ people and she wants to bring the baby (3 month old) to work with her. Any guidelines would be appreciated!

Illegal or not, I can't imagine that an employer would consider doing it. Two things come to mind: 100 people who are not being properly served due to the mother's inattention, and the possibility that the child is harmed somehow in what the DOL already considers to be a work area full of hazards. How deep are your pockets?

Hmmmm what about the health department, would they allow that in a kitchen? Simple fact is I do not know of many employers who allow their employees to bring their infant children to work with them day in day out.

Not only is the mother inattentive, but so probably are the other employees. I don't know if there is a law, but common sense should prevail. The baby should not be allowed.

We don't allow employees to bring children to work with them. We would soon look like a nursery if we allowed this - not to mention the distraction it would cause.

A 3 month old baby needs pretty much constant care. I don't see how a mother could get any work done with her 3 month old there. Also, if (God Forbid) something were to happen to that baby in the kitchen (burns, cuts, etc), the employer could be held liable for the injury.

I can possibly imagine some jobs where a kind employer would allow a valued employee to bring a toddler to work but a kitchen would not be one of them.
