Absenteeism for Sickness

I am currently trying to discover what the going concensus is on the question of when an employee is out sick for several days, for evaluation purposes are the consecutive days considered one incident or do the majority count each day as an incident, which can destroy a persons attendance evaluation?

When someone calls in sick at our company each consecutive day is considered all one occurrence for absenteeism. If they return to work and then miss more time it is counted as another occurrence. Of course you have to consider FMLA into the equation when they are gone more than 3 days.

We count each day as 1 point, unless they bring a doctor's note from the time they were sick. If the note/visit is after the fact they are out of luck. If they bring a doctor's note we count it as one occurrence, 1 point even if they are out a week.
