I-9 Reverification

Do I need to reverify an employee's right to work in the US with the same document that was originally presented and now expired? My common sense and ethics tells me yes. In this case it is a Resident Alien card that expired. I don't feel it's right to let him show me a driver's license and Social Sec Card as documentation this time knowing his Resident alien card is expired and he doesn't have a new one.
