To save space and paper, and add great convenience, can an employer scan HR personnel files and essentially maintain personnel files electronically? Our company is investing in scanning equipment and we are trying to be as paperless as possible. If we can put several thousand files on the computer, that would be great.
Is this legally sound? What implications should I consider?
