Buying additional PTO

I am trying to gather info re: the ability to buy additional PTO. My previous company allowed employees to buy (in 8-hour blocks) up to 40 hours addtional PTO after employed for 2 yrs. Anyone have some thoughts on this? thanks

  • I worked for a company that allowed you to either buy or sell(for those who never took their full time allotment which was very generous) up to 5 days. They had to be in blocks of full days and had to be declared at the beginning of the year. The amount was then deducted or added to your pay across the year. If you bought days and didn't use them, they were lost. (The policy was a use it or lose it policy.)

It was a great feature but could become an accounting problem when someone terminated during the year.
