Help, I need your advice. We are going to lay off a person at the end of the month. Besides the Cobra deal, is there anything else I need to know or do? I assume there is no problem telling this person that they have to clear out their area before the end of that day.

Depending on your state, you might have to give them a separation notice.
You also want to make sure to get back anything that might be company property such as keys, cell phones, pagers, etc...
Other than that the person will probably want to know when they will receive their last pay check and whether they receive any vacation time, etc.
