  • I agree with Rocky...We keep records of complete employment history. How else can you back up personnel actions, positive as well as negative? Maintain them for the specified time period after termination and then destroy.
  • Aren't the tax reductions included in the updated tax rate schedule in effect after 6/30/01?
  • All employees play a valuable role within the organization, including part timers. Why treat them like "second-class citizens" by denying them a prorated benefit package?
  • Beware...Years ago we had two new moms return to work for as little as one week just to get the paid benefit and then announced their intent to stay home. They took advantage of the system, and the "burned" owners discontinued the benefit.
  • The responses just show there is no one "proper dress code" applicable for all businesses. It is determined by the type of business and the message/image that needs to be presented. Suits very appropriate in one setting can be out of place in anot…
  • I agree, dress codes should match job needs and responsibilities. I also agree with setting company standards and understood the current topic to be directed toward management staff. Salaried professionals are expected to help set the tone and ref…
  • I would also be concerned about valid expectations regarding personal privacy issues. We publish contact lists of management staff for everyone, but only our management staff has access to employee information on the basis of "need to know". Some …
  • Also, if the manager can prove theft, should the company prosecute?

  • I prefer to keep everything on file as long as the employee is active. Past problems may not bear as much weight after a period of time, but the file should remain complete.
  • Your concern is valid, but the key word is "conviction". Employment at will still carries a lot of legalities.
  • I wouldn't think we should allow anyone to go throughout the plant/office soliciting, especially during work time. We do allow notices on our bulletin board and in the breakroom.
  • Do you immediately reinstate all service related benefits such as PTO, 401(k), insurances, etc. based on the adjusted service date???

  • I suppose cost could be a factor. Then there are the problems with updates. Just because updates are issued, not everyone is motivated to keep their copy current. And then at termination there are always those who can't seem to locate their handbook…

  • After HR research and discussions with our CPA, we adopted a policy to allow employees to donate PTO to another employee in need. First of all, the donating employee has to complete and sign a form. The "gift" is the actual value of the PTO hours …
