I have been through this several times. If they want to drop the spouse during an open-enrollment and I know they are in the process of a divorce - I will do it with a notarized statement from the spouse acknowledging the termination of their cover…

I agree - Just Say NO. The only thing I do it purchase the Wal-Mart gift cards at THanskgiving. Everything else is give to a department to plan. I don't know why all party planning seems to fall under HR.

Until we got a Intranet I put policies and procedures in a binder. Now we have a Section on the Intranet specifically for HR. The employees can download forms, insurance info, etc.. Made things much easier for a Department of ONE.

I agree if the company paid for or encouraged her to obtain her CPA. She should not assume that she will be given an increase. There is not comparison with the Controller and a Staff Accountant. I would congratulate her on HER sucess.

The employee has yet to file the appeal - I am sure he will. I have always been able to conduct the appeals over the phone. I had one employee who stabbed his wife and was being released from jail, filed for unemployment, lost and requested an ap…

LAST EDITED ON 10-03-03 AT 01:45PM (CST)[p]We currently have an armed guard at the location. I called the Manager right away. "Stab Back" was a direct quote - I have a statement from the Manager that he was …

We don't list birthdays any longer - the first one you leave off - all heck breaks loose. I don't have time - each department celebrates their birthdays. I say leave me out of it - for no reason other than - No time .

We called them the day we terminated him and requested them be at the site (they did not show). I have not since then called them - he left me a message this morning and actually sounded calmer. I worry more about getting a call that the building…

In a perfect world I would poke the bull with a hot iron OVER AND OVER AGAIN. We have not been doing that - when I reviewed his vacation time he has taken everything three weeks. There is nothing to pay him. We have a guard because I do care abou…

Thanks - this particular termination has gotten ugly. I currently have an armed guard at the site.

We have a COBRA Participant on the waiting list for lung transplant. I do not have renewal numbers yet - I am expecting the worst. 102% that is what I was thinking.

We also do background checks - 200 employees

The GM might not have gotten a chance to speak with either you or your supervisor. I would give him a little more time - if not agree with the posting above - speak with your supervisor and share your concerns.

We had similar problem - only with the tornados that hit Tennessee. Some made an attempt to come in - others used it as an excuse to stay home. If you have a policy that addresses severe weather (snow days) I would also suggest you follow that p…

I have not had much time in the past day or two to read the postings. WOW did I miss alot. My thick skin was being tested when our V.P. of I.T. recevied an e-mail she did not particularly like - so she yelled at me. I on the other hand thoug…

At my previous position - I supervised the janitors and security guards. I don't think it is that uncommon for HR to be the catch-all for a lot of different tasks.

Our policy states briefly: "Business courtesies are normal and acceptable business practices. MSCO Employee’s are allowed to accept only the kind of business courtesy that they are allowed to offer to our customers". Because we do purchase big g…

You would think your son's wedding would be important enough to take a vacation day or two. Was that an option? If you give an ince SOME PEOPLE will take a mile. It is very disheartening at time.

I have current employees who call and request their W-2's. They call the morning they have an appointment with the Mortage Company and think I can pull them out of thin air. We outsource our payroll so it could take a week for me to get them. W…

I had the same problem - I drafted a memo - payroll will be approved by 9:00 AM - Monday morning. After 9:00 AM I roll the time clock and no time can be approved. This happened maybe three times. The Manager had to call me when they could not app…

I also had a truck driver that was going to be laid-off - I offered him a warehouse position for the same money- which he turned down. He was denied unemployment.

This is not a problem just in the state. Our policy specifically states no tank tops. I saw tank tops every time I turned a corner. The next notice I sent out was - there is a difference between sleeveless and tank tops - if you do not know the d…

The information would come from a brochure that is being passed out at TownHall Meetings the Governor is holding. I have mixed feelings - if the material is distributed in a non-biased way it could be educational. We shall see how it is worded in…

Thinking back I have had several employees say those same words: "I've paid in" I think it is a great idea to educate the Management team. Our employees have no idea how much the employer pays for each employee, benefits, FICA, Unemployment, Worke…

I certainly don't mean to make light of your situation - hopefully this will give you a good laugh - my own dealings with a RAT (Sort Of). Our Accounting Department was in several offices connected by a hallway. A couple of the ladies are in one …

I'm with Rockie - tow them off. You will have very unhappy employees - but that is part of the job sometimes. It will only take one or two being towed. Good Luck

I found the information on the IRS website. This employee makes a very good wage, has 14 allowances and claims he still is owed money at the end of the year. I think my husband and I need to use his accountant.

Parabegal, All of the cities you are interested in have a large military influence. There is a great change you would be interviewing with a "Left Coast Yankee". I have lived in the South since I was very young - transplant from Upper Peninsula of…

We have 200 employee's in 17 Branches in three states. I am the only HR Person - the only thing we outsource is payroll.

I am a one person HR Department that does payroll. The payroll is outsourced - but I track leave time, deductions, and submit hours for checks to be processed. Everything is computerized so it does not take very long.
