Any chance you could get a copy of that agreement? I would love to read it. Does it actually say "badmouth"?

Yes, I think to some degree, location and circumstances should be considered when evaluating behavior. A professional "exotic dancer", for example, can't complain that her customers are leering at her. I am not saying that the football players we…

I think Ms. Sainz knows EXACTLY what she is doing. You don't put on pants like that on accident. I am not even sure how you put them on. Also, should the location of the alleged harassment be considered? It wasn't the Jets front office. It w…

Maybe this is too "out of the box" but have you considered "self-banking" lines like the self-checkout lines in grocery stores nowadays?

This kid seems to be enjoying it too much...

Good suggestions, thanks. I have to agree with Dutch that "changed behavior" is the ideal way to make accountability visible. One thing I have advised them to do is to be a little more firm with some of the stuff they have let slide in the past. I…

There are just a few people (about 4 out of 800) who are my "friends" on both pages. These are individuals who have worked for our organization or have some relationship to it but also know me well personally. I get several requests from staff or …

Here is an article about a young lady who solved the Facebook/work acquaintances dilemma by creating two FB accounts (like I have). I think it will be a more common practice. http://articles.cnn.com/2009-05-07/living/wlb.social.networking_1_…

Facebook keeps you connected with people in the same way the evening news tells you what happened that day. Its just the highlights and its highly edited, highly controlled. That said, its wonderful for posting photos/videos and staying up to date…

We even moved our references online. I was very hesitant because in theory a deceptive applicant could complete his or her own references online and it would be very difficult to tell. (Assuming they went to the trouble to create fake e-mail addre…

Perhaps you need to clarify "I'll be your friend but I won't help out your farm" policy?

As for leaving the organization, its not an issue. Our former staff like to hear whats going on and see the photos and videos I post. I have noticed that former staff tease me more than current staf... cheeky monkeys!
-
I have a facebook profile for my HR "persona" and I have 815 friends. Most are current or former staff. So far it hasn't been an issue. Sometimes an applicant will add me and that can be a little awkward when they are not hired. I just figure …

To clarify, the request for a photo is part of their hiring paperwork and not part of the application. We don't ask for photos. When candidates come in for interviews, I will also shield my eyes so I never get a good look at them.
-
I should add that we have now moved our part time hiring paperwork online and will eventually move all our hiring paperwork online.
-
We hire over 90 summer staff each year which creates a great deal of paperwork and postage expense. We moved our hiring paperwork online and found it to be very successful. We use a third party website called www.wufoo…

Denise, this topic has come up on the forum at different times and you might find some useful information if you run a search. My thinking is that your reasons for requiring english are legitimate and business related. What I would advise emplo…

On one hand, he may be a superstar that has learned a huge lesson and will be a better person. Kind of like eating at a restaurant that was recently closed down for health code violations. You know that (at least for awhile) they will be very car…

Why do women like men who look like women?

I am fascinated by lie detection and have read a couple books on the subject. I will probably read this one too. Nae's original post seems to be more about "truth telling" than lying. I believe people's personalities dictate their approach to "t…

I think it was his texts that alerted his coworkers that he was in trouble. The Facebook just adds "style" to the story. There is a backstory to this particular employee that would explain his behavior. He's just a bit different.

One thing he did that was very smart was to stay put when he realized he was lost. He found a safe spot between some trees and spent the night there until the sun came up.

Hilarious, Frank.

I believe he had spotty cell coverage but he could text and access FB. Data coverage and cell coverage areas can be different.

Wow.. cool story. I lived in a beautiful part of the Central Californian coast for several years and never fully appreciated it. When I moved here, I made the conscious decision not to repeat that mistake.

I think I'll stick with grabbing a beer and deploying the chute.

"We divided our problems among groups of small people"... mmhmmm... Holly, we don't call them small people anymore. We call them interns.

I think the problem with swarming (if I understand the concept) is that I think there is a tipping point to group efforts where productivity and effectiveness actually decrease when you add manpower. I call it the "Stand around because you dont kn…

This article is hilarious but I don't think its meant to be funny. Here is a quote: This suggests the use of n-dimensional virtual representations of all different sorts of data. The contents of the simulated environment will be asse…

Time to crack open a beer and deploy the emergency chute! I am OUTTA HERE! Oh, wait, its only noon Pacific time.
