Wow - you have just successfully answered all three of Kierkegaard's primary questions for me! "Who am I?†“What am I doing here?†“Where am I going?†Hopefully he won't shake the snowglobe - I get motion sickness and I don't like sno…

I didn't expect to see a discussion including Existentialism in an HR Forum thread. Makes me ask the question, “What am I doing here?†x:D

Accounts Payable is one of my dutioes here; and I have just gone through my Vendor List to check for who needs a 1099. Why are you having to research anything? Sounds like you guys have bigger issues there than just 1099s...

I don't make payroll errors! x0:) But when Paychex has made errors it takes the same amount of time to correct it regardless of where the employee banks.

The Bank defines “immediate family†as the employee’s spouse, parent, child, sibling; employee’s spouse’s parent, child, or sibling; the employee’s child’s spouse; grandparents, or grandchildren.

That is such a sweet idea - may I come work for you? The only experience I have had with this is through my vet's office. It can be cost effective if you have an animal with severe health issues. I've had two of them. The insurance was reasonable a…

Thanks for the responses! I was unsure about charging for the account as soon as the ee leaves, or waiting until the next statement cycle. Since the account is where their check is deposited it is really more of a headache for me if the ee decides t…

I agree with Sonny. The legalities involved in collecting on a 'non-performing' loan are numerous. If this is an unsecured debt then good luck collecting should the employee leave.

Nice analogy. th-up When everything is given to you it tends to strip away your sense of accountability, you are no longer responsible for taking care of yourself.

David, As always, your post is very enlightening and I agree with your assessment. Just because a store has a sale should not make them liable for the behavior of their customers. People have become too 'it's all about me' - or maybe I have just bec…

Same as plynnl - no agreements or releases and we will not challenge the UI claim.

What if you let people go for 'lack of work' but they are the ones responsible for creating their work? Hypothetically speaking of course, if you had a 'sales person' who dealt primarily with a market that dried up but this 'sales person' did not ac…

Unfortunately I just went through this. Our CEO let the ee's stay a few days and it was a mistake. They came to work in jeans and sweatshirts and left when they pleased. They also spread fear that - "You could be next". I guess it depends on the per…

Thanks everybody! Sometimes it is nice to hear that you aren't being an 'evil HR Officer' and that you made the right call. I will try to get a representative to come out and go over the various funds, since that seems to be normal request. Workin…

Thanks for the input Dutch. I know the potential for a lawsuit is there and that is why I refused to help her. I won't even give my boyfriend investment advice, and I don't believe he would sue me... :-? Do you automatically sign up eligible emp…

For once I agree with Paul. Only after many direct confrontations with my B could I get her just to stop answering my phone (we have direct lines and voicemail - it got to where I hated to leave my office). She doesn't realize she has a problem; i…

Hopefully you can find an employee who will be able to see past her issues to the good person inside. I have prayed for my 'B' and have tried my hardest to do that. Some days are easier than others. Good luck!

Snarky... I keep my spreadsheet on a personal jump drive! Dealing with her has had me in tears on many occasions. Let me keep this 'one thing'... It helps me get through the day. x:-(

Nae Nae, I work with employee B. She makes my life miserable. She watches the comings and going of every ee, has said some hurtful things (unintentionally) and no one wants to be around her. Could your B possibly be insecure? That is my take on my B…

You have turned to the darkside - the world of bad english? Oh heavens. Hope theology wasn't your major!

Oh Frank, I just have to do this - "about where we're at" - you are behind the 'at'.... My mom taught English for years; if I heard that saying once I heard it a thousand times. Sorry!
