Sorry for the delayed response. Our limit is 5k annual. We don't use the debit cards but our carrier has what they call "streamline submissions". Basically, when they see you've spent out of pocket $$, they direct deposit the money to your accoun…

We are self insured as well. We pay 50% for 12 weeks and require employees to supplement the other 50% with their PTO. Then LTD kicks in at 50%, however, employees can buy up to 60% or 70%.

I ended up handling over the phone. The option to wait for her return was not an...option. It went as well as it could. She wasn't really surprised considering our current situation. She did receive a nice severance package, which softened the b…

We have an employee who is out for the very same reason. However, here is my dilemma: The cert ppwk came back stating he could work. EE says he can't. We called and informed him his doctor said he could work. Mind you, he's been out for 2 weeks…

I would ask for recert. Monday is July and you haven't had one since April. That's plenty of time. Intermittent FML is so hard b/c of reasons you just cited. It's disruptive to the work flow, but we do what we have to do.

Nae, She doesn't want her doctor to certify it. She doesn't want it to count towards her 12 weeks. This is was I am referencing in the conversation with her. "the employer is responsible for designating if an employee's use of paid leave count…

OK, I have a pregnant employee who intends to use her 12 weeks of leave. However, she informed us today she wants to take the 2 weeks preceeding the birth off. Would this be counted? It doesn't seem fair to allow her two weeks vacation and then an…

we have a STD policy for 12 weeks at 50% pay. It kicks in with all other benefits: 1st of mo following 60 days. They're not covered by FMLA, so we can replace, but then we end up paying 150% for the job.

I can say that GA (or at least my area) seems to be employer friendly. I'm happy to say the DOL has denied unemployment for everyone this year except 1. Sales people are always the hardest b/c you have to show willfull neglect. Otherwise, they ar…

I knew the drug test wouldn't count, but did not realize that xrays and such wouldn't count either if they came back negative, meaning no injury found. We've had quite a few of these lately, so I'm relieved I don't have to record most of them. Thx!

yes, I read that in the article, too. I cut out the dosages and clipped it to my log folder so I wouldn't miss it.

I guess I'll be the odd one out. We terminate after the 12 weeks have exhausted plus 30 days. Our short term disability runs concurrent with FML for only 12 weeks. So the additional 30 days is unpaid leave. We only grant it if the CHP states they…

for upper management we typically offer up to 90 days in a furnished apartment and move their household goods. We also pay for expenses incurred during final move such as mileage, hotel, etc. We have the EE sign a relocation agreement that states i…

no, these were folks were from various departments, so pulling them all together doesn't really make sense. I had about 6 from one departments, but within different subgroups within that dept. Good news though! We were told to hold off on everyth…

we post all internal. Sometimes we indicate we have a "preferred candidate" on the posting (for situations such as yours). I always encourage managers to interview internal apps. It's good experience for all involved.

Well, I've had a chance to cool off and here are my thoughts (and the outcome) on the matter. 1) we do have a formal internal application process. In this particular instance, there was a miscommunication and the supervisor made the offer thinking …

we rolled this out a few years ago, although the employees registered with their employee ID#. Is that an option for you? Those who do not elect direct deposit get their paycheck mailed to their home. We still have a few who prefer this method eve…

Aren't subpeonas usually hand delivered or sent via certified mail? I've never received one over the fax.

LAST EDITED ON 03-22-07 AT 12:54PM (CST)[br][br]I concur. If you cannot touch pork, why would you work in a store that sells it? Why would you accept a cashier position knowing full well the store sells pork a…

Ah...this is what a friend if mine refers to as "grocery store law". They heard it in line at the grocery store so it must be true!

Hey Catbert, No need to apologize. It wasn't your post that hit a nerve. The list of questions you submitted were points well taken. We had already asked a lot of those questions not only to ourselves but the co-workers who were out there. I'm …

Hold on there everyone! I was simply venting yesterday about some of my employees. It does not mean I/we "are not good at dealing with performance problems". I have over 400 employees to deal with and obviously, not everyone is going to have a h…

yes, they do. I have two different supvsrs who told him the same thing. They documented both conversations. Our concern is that he may tell us we're correct, that he needs help and can he go to anger mgt classes. We can do a mandatory referral to…

That's exactly what I was thinking, however, it's nice to get someone else's point of view. I sometimes feel like I get stuck in a rut and wonder if I'm too quick to judge. I haven't shown much sympathy for anyone lately. The work ethic of some o…

I'm with you in that I've fought lots of UC before. It's the principle of the matter. I would protest and state her job performance was unsatisfactory. She made high-dollar mistakes, you documented, and for that reason you decided to term her empl…

Well now I'm confused. The OSHA log instructions state: "employers must keep a log for each establishment or site. If you have more than one establishment, you must keep a separate log and summary for each physical location that is expected to be …

well, I didn't mean to sit around and hold on to someone who stinks, but to make sure you have your ducks in a row. I've experienced the "rush through" to fire someone that day and it came back to bite me in the butt. I like to ask questions and m…

We should never be in a hurry to fire someone. I can't tell you how many times I've said that to a manager. Let them know HR is their friend. You can make their lives so much easier if they communicate with you. (That's the "what's-in-it-for-me?" …

The last few requests I've received from attorneys includes language to the effect of: "personnel file, memos pertaining to employee, etc." Basically anything I have that has the employee's name on it. That would include any separate files I have,…

from the article: "If you rehire an employee, even after an extended break in employment, you should count the employee's period of prior employment toward the FMLA eligibility requirements. That means that returning employees may be eligible for le…
