  • Guess we are just a bunch of ol' tight wads... we have never paid the maximum amount allowed by the IRS. We reduced our travel reimbursement to $0.40 per mile effective January 1, 2010. A valid driver’s license issued within the United States and …
  • Our previous chairman was instrumental in starting up the United Way in our county back many-many years or many decades ago. We continue to support UW by being a pace-setting organization and matching our employee contributions up to $250 each. As…
  • We are a financial institution located in central Missouri and recently had one ee work out of the great state of Alaska for 9 - 10 months. We currently have three ee's workign off site and one is in IL. Had a few opportunites getting the out of s…
  • As a kid I was a Jonny U fan (Baltimore Colts) - so I tend to root for the Colts - but - the Ain'ts or Saints have never been to the Super bowl so that would be good too.... We don't really have a horse in this race so we will not be watching the g…
  • We do not have a problem, that I aware of, with ee's using such devices while on the job. However, our time clock is just outside my office and it amazes me at the number of ee's that are either posting or talking on their phones as they clock in a…
  • It has been years since I watched any of the "late" night talk shows. These guys (programs) come on to late in the evening for me. Ya know us old guys - early to bed, early to rise, makes a man.... how does that go again???? Darn ol' senior momen…
  • Click back back to the home page.. there is an article "Pay, Time Off Issues for Office Closings Due to Inclement Weather" they helps to explain how exempt ee's must be paid.
  • I had a friend that was exempt (Loan Officer at a bank) and they required everyone to clock in. They used this information to track attendance and not to pay exempt employees. Be very careful you don't end up paying exempt ee's for time worked.
  • Grumpy employees... yea.. it must be the weather. I heard a comment yesterday that went something like: "Temp of 5 degrees today - wind chill feels like -12. Isn't that like saying: 100% chance of rain today - with an umbrella it feels dry."

  • Nae - please send some warmer weather our way! It's been single digits to low teens here in mid-MO for serveral days. Weather dudes are saying snow starting by mid day with 4-6 inches accumulation. Not supposed to get above freezing for the next …

  • Thanks for the great short stories... must be a quite day in Kansas this morning...?
  • I agree with the others, their current rate of pay. If the ee had earned vacation in 2008 while making $9.00 per hour and then took vacation in 2009 after receiving an increase in pay to $9.50, would you pay their vacation time at $9.00 or $9.50 pe…
  • We close at noon on the 24th and then will be closed on the 25th. We will be open business on Monday the 27th. We also close at 3:00 p.m. on Dec. 31st and are closed on January 1st.
  • This is a new twist for me. Every child support situation / payroll deduction I have had to deal with has been for a total of X dollars for the year. So we divide by our number of payperiods that year and not a percent of all wages. However, th…
  • What line of business are you in?
  • Didn't we see this in I-D 4?
  • We plan on offering the same level of benefits as before; however, 2010 will be the first year our employees have been required to pay a portion of the cost for their coverage. We plan on continuing to pay about 50% of the cost for dependent covera…
  • ....figures.... I listen to NPR a lot. In fact I have it playing now - local station out of Univeristy of Missouri - plays classical music when not doing the news.
  • "Hijacker! I knew we should make Dutch take off his shoes before he came in!" Frank, I have been out of Arkansas and in Missouri long enough to almost be used to wearing shoes....
  • Not to high-jack the post.... I just received a call from our County Health Dept. informing me that they will not be able to supply the Seasonal Flu vaccine to our ee's as planned. We had 65% of our ee's sign up for the flu vaccine. Apparently the…
  • They seem to come in waves. I can go a long time without any tearful sessions and then have two, three or more in a short time. Every good HR office is always stocked with tissues and chocolate. Good luck Paul.

  • ...these young folks just don't know what they are missing. Give me the golden oldies of the 50' - 60's any day over "80's alternative new wave."
  • Never forget "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine."
  • We have confirmed cases in the local public school and in both local colleges. However, so far it is basically business as usual at all locations. The colleges are sending out campus wide emails with instructions as to what to do if you have the s…
  • Yep... it depends on your provider. We have had STD for several years and to my knowledge have not experienced any problems. There are all sorts of variations out there, ours does not start paying until the ee has been off work for 30 days.
  • We are very-very similar to Nae's comments in how we handle time cards. One big difference is we pay sick time for sick only. Sick time can not be used for any other purpose. If the ee does not work their full work week for some reason, other tha…
  • Belated happy birthday to you Paul!!! 40, I think I remember that,,,the 40's came just before the 50's - right?
    in For-tay! Comment by Dutch2 August 2009
  • We too “sorta” do both. If the ee is already making in excess of the minimum wage for the new position, we will most often not give them an increase at the time of the move. We do review their performance at the end of the first 90 days and would …
  • Thank you all for your responses. They are muchly appreciated. Dutch
  • We are almost exact to cnghr; however, we too are a bank and I assume we went through the same or very similar pandemic preparedness training through the Feds. Our committee is set up and ready to act if/when needed. So far no problems in the at…
