We can require it, and we do. However, we cannot tell the ee's which bank to use. They must have the freedom to use which ever bank/financial institution they want. Also,it does not have to be a checking account, it can be a savings account and …

I must have a small mind 'cause I have to agree with Joannie. Consistency has a lot going for it. When you start allowing one ee to do something and not another the opportunites can commence quickly . After this happens a few times and someone re…

Go back to the Home page, login, go to HR Tools and click on Sample Policies & Procedures.

Do you allow other ee's to take time off without pay when requested? Since you are open 365 a year, how to you normally handle time off for the most desirable dates (holidays)?

State Laws do vary. Many states require that the Er allow the emloyees to inspect and make copies of their personnel file and any other personnel information maintainted by the er. Best check with your state laws. If you are also a memeber of SHR…

Our BoD is very involved in the operations. They are more interested in the total cost of payroll and benefits, how these compare to the previous year and what I am doing to help control them. Don't know how you can go wrong in asking them what t…

Unless it creates an undue hardhip on the employer, you give them those days off. Religion and religious convictions already have protected status in the workplace. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII) and numerous state laws proh…

We too put up a suggestion box at the request of our ee's. Paul is right on... as this quickly became a complaint box with no names attached. I suggest you go more in line with what Ray suggested than simply a suggestion box. Good luck.

This is something that most all of us have had to address at least once... In addition to what PCB recommends, try to imagine how you would want this addressed if you were the ee with the odor. Hopefully you are doing them a favor by bringing this…

Cell Phone Policy: (office environment) The XYZ company will not be liable for the loss of personal cellular phones brought into the workplace. While at work, employees are to exercise the same discretion in using personal cellular phones as they d…

We also do not allow everybody emails for such events. We do allow posters to be placed in the break rooms and we have a weekly newsletter that our ee's are welcome to list personal items for sale or upcoming events... Ok Ray, I am be running behi…

We allow our ee's to have a radio, C/D player, etc. at their work station for this reason. They must keep it turned down low enough so as not to be a bother to others near them.

We have only given a severance package to one ee that we have terminated. And it was all paid out at once. We had the same concerns as Paul mentions, we wanted to ensure a clean break in employment. Goog luck...

Welcome back... Same here we will occassionally hire a new branch manager who thinks they know best and they begin keeping all of their own files. Usually just explaining it to them takes care of the matter. If not, do what you have to in order to…

Nae has good advice.... You should always have someone else with you when you know the situation may turn violent.

There are numerous lists floating around with what you can and cannot ask an applicant. Bottom Line: do not ask anything that does not pretain to the requirements to perform the job. I do not see how if someone lives in HUD housing has anything t…

Same here. We have an internal transfer policy and we always post open positions for our current ee's first. If someone interally is interested, I encourage the hiring supervisor to come to HR and together we look over the ee's file.

Yep, same here. I stongly recommend them. I have the ee complete the "Exit Interview Form" and then I go over it with them in detail in an attempt to dig a little deeper to any comments they have made. You will of coure sometimes run across the …

This is not just a bilingual situation. There are lots of training courses that ee's can attend to help them with grammar, spelling, etc. We have had several ee's attend these sessions to "brush up" on their writing skills. Especailly those that…

Same here. We pay holiday pay for the hours they would have worked had we been open. This can be for any amount of time depending upon their schedule for that particular day.

So when you tell the prosecuting attorney, "I know nothing!" and then he pulls out a copy of your email on HRHero regarding same and says do you remember this... guess you can always declare that you have no recollection of that email.

On a competitor's site, (known as SHRM) they currently have an article that says the March maddness pools "may not be such a bad thing in the office. One expert says"... To my knowledge we have never had a "problem" with office pools. However, we…

We too are in banking. We do not fingerprint. So far every audit and exam we have had is fine with the fact that we simply to criminal background checks using Name, SSN, and DOB to gather the information. I would guess that we will continue on as…

Ditto... we provide a copy to the employee at the time of the performance review, counseling session, etc... We allow our ee's to look through their personnel file basically at any time as long as someone from HR is with them. It is my opinion tha…

Guess she must never go to the Post Office to pick up the rest of her mail? I think most every HR Dept. has had one or more ex-ee's that just won't go away for what ever reason...

To me the key is in your statement, "from an on-line accredited school" If they are accredited, they must satisfy the same requirements as the schools made out of brick and mud with the ivy covered walls. Way back in my college days I recall some …

First reaction is if this manager (lady) has no employer authority over this ee (man) then what's the big deal. If they are two consenting adults that just happen to work for the same employer and not even in the same building, why should the emplo…

Don't know about your state, but if they resign vs. being fired this could have an impact on their abiltiy to recieve unemployement benefits.

I agree with WOT. I was also wondering if you were possibly thinking of the minimum amount of time that a temp. can work for you before their employer, the Temp Agency, will allow them to be hired by the company where they have been working as a te…

Not yet. We pay 100% of the ee premiums and 50% of their dependent premium costs. Have had two ee's this year ask if they would drop their company paid health coverage would we in turn pay them this value in additional wages. Our response has be…
