Sorry.... don't know about Indy... but here they do not "have to be" from a state law. We do often print them out as a separate check in order to place more emphasis on them and to help reduce the tax amount.

Frank: Thanks for the info. Unless you attend a seminar that is very topic/field of business specialized, I have 'bout reached the same conclusion of most every seminar I have attended for some time and seldom attend any now. If I keep up with …

Our program states that you must be employed between Jan 1 and May 31 in order to be eligible to pariticpate in the program for that year. We also pro-rate what the amount would be based upon the "full" months worked during the year. For example if…

Same here. If we require the ee to take the training, we pay them for their time.

Without knowing all the particulars... one tough way to play this would be to tell the Facility Mgr. that ethically this is the same as stealing from the company and therefore grounds for termination. Is his job worth paying the company back? Do y…

Not an answer, just another curious HR dept. We too are considerning going to on line pay stubs vs. handing out the hard copy. We are 100% payroll direct deposit.
-
Are you still tracking hours worked on Saturday? I would suggest you have some way to prove beyond a doubt that the ee's were paid at least equal to if not in excess of time and a half for all hours over 40. Have you considered offering a premimum…

Only Reg. I can think of is: The Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. These prohibit gender-based discrimination in the workplace by requiring equal pay for equal work. Depending on performance and seniority, jobs t…

Don't ya just love these "experts" that you pay good money to go hear with the idea that you will learn enough to make up for the cost of the seminar and the missed day of work. Then to come back with information that is supposely the "law" or the …

I can't speak from a legal point but we did have this almost occur once. When the Temp agency informed us that they had a former ee of ours at their agency we asked who it was and simply informed them that we would prefer if they sent someone else.…

When we want someone to get a bonus of say $100.00 we gross it up so that they clear $100.00. Due to their tax situation, the check may be for $125.00 etc, but the take home is $100.00. Payroll should be able to quickly figure this amount for you.

Same here...never really thought about it. The ee either clocks out after they are term'ed or we clock them out after the fact. Seems like the right thing to do since your are requiring them to be there.
-
And that would be: www.dol.gov/esa/regs/compliance/posters/flsa.htm

Samehere... We pay the ee for all travel time. We realize that we may not be required to do so, but we feel that they could be home with their family but they are traveling for us; so the least we can do is pay them for this time.
-
I would say that is a business call. When we have done this we paid regular wages, overtime if they worked over 40 and provided meals and snacks to help make it a more fun event.
-
Yep.... sure do. We had to be there an hour before the store opened and we had to stay unitl it was completely zoned and ready to open the next morning. Thank goodness for the ole blue law and we had to be closed on Sunday back then or we would hav…

Ritaanz just beat me to the point I was about to make. Word like this spreads fast. Maybe I am toooo old school, but when did exempt ee's get the idea they only have to work 40 hours a week. We had a few like that: thought they should get comp tim…

Independnet and "Not for Sale" Community Bank - payroll is in HR.

Welcome to the forum.... I suspect their Manager has a reason for the exempt ee's in a particular dept. to clock in and out. I believe you are right on course, as long as you continue to pay them as exempt ee's there is nothing wrong with them cloc…

If overtime pay is not an issue, hours in excess of 40, why not just pay them for actual time worked each week. So they get paid 37 hours one week and 33 hours the next; it still comes out to average 35 hours per week and the cost to teh company wo…

That is all fine and dandy, but I know of several companies that require their exempt ee's to work well in excess of 40 hours every week. As well as work most every holiday so the company does not have to pay out so much holiday pay. Thankfully whe…

We do the same as C Wilson. We gross up the amount to ensure the ee nets the correct amount, such as $50.00.
-
When I first started here they paid on the 1st and 15th. This 'bout drove me and everyone else nuts trying to keep everything accurate and up to date. We had ee's complain to the Board of Directors that they never knew for sure how much they would…
-
Same here. Have always paid out at their current rate of pay. Same could hold true if somone was promoted to a higher rate of pay. Would you consider paying their sick, vacation, at the lower rate they were making when they "earned" these beenfit…

I have to agree with Nae...Your company (big or small) really needs some sort of contingency plan for all vital systems/operations, such as and especially payroll. A lot of folks do live from payday to payday and even a payday just a few days late …

We too have max rates for all posiitons except what we consider our Sr. Management positions, (Sr. V.P, Ex. VP, President, COO and CEO). The salaries for our Sr. Mgmt Positions are set by our Board of Directors. You might consider when you rewrite…

All I know so far is that last week at our Cabinet meeting our CEO and our COO announced that they are voluntarily freezing their salaries for next year due to the anticipated extra tight margins in 2007. Wage increases may be "slim pickin's" aroun…

I checked here and our Chief of Police is exempt. Of course I am sure the job duties could be very different from one city to another.

I realize that we are not required to pay for every minute of travel time, but we do. Our thinking is that if they were not traveling for the company, they could be home with their family, etc.; therefore, we pay for all travel time as if they were…
