How did I miss this one -- you'al are having too much fun! Of course you can eat your bread with a fork or spoon -- providing it is spoon bread or bread pudding. What's the problem? Oh -- that's not even the question, huh.
-
Gee, Ihill, I would like to answer you, however, the correct response was already contained in your question: "We followed our disiplinary procedure and finally terminated." Now, forget about it and go forth . . .

Nat, help me out here please. Birth date, I see. Address, I see. Emergency Info, I see. Telephone number, I see. I personally don't mind answering -- but what in the (corporate) world do you need the race information for?

Oh, no -- you are not excused! I am basing my opinion on the many interviews and articles read in the past. Yes, he is different -- well even a bit strange. You don't like 'em. Okay, fair enough, no reason why you have to. Do you hear me saying…

Okay, Don, you got me. This extremely talented person of whom you refer has more concerns than his physical appearance. I never heard him mention being ashamed of being African American -- he just didn't like his looks or self period. How do you …

If he is of mixed ethnicity, then he is of mixed ethnicity. I really don't see why this is a problem for you. Either ask him if you want to know, or guess if you need to fill out a form and can't tell. You can be white and get awards or belong to …

When I call for a reference, I want an honest and fair accessment of the employee. Therefore, I do all in my power to provide the same service to others. Yes, there are some situations where I have to be extremely selective in my choice of words -…

Not sure why one would single out mental illness from bodily illness, if an employee shows evidence of either. I probably would ask if they need time to take care of whatever ails them. Yes, they use leave (that's why we have it), and even Short or…

THANKS!

There are random generators out there that charge about $79 per year to generate the lists. I would like to have more information on these. Can you direct me?

I often remove reference checks and/or background check information from files before turning them over to the employee. (We state that our reference checks are confidential when we get them so they are not for the employee's eyes).
-
Not that I have ever heard of, but you would want to be reasonable. I usually base it on my schedule as I need to review it first to be sure info not for employee's eyes is removed, and of course I remain with the person as they view the file.

I would tell the Deaf Action League that the company will provide an interpreter if one is requested prior to the meeting by a hearing impaired individual needing this accommodation. Should you get such a request, there are various ways to accommod…

"What gets me are these two ton mommas with nine kids in tow who tool up in their 26 year old Pontiac and park in the blue zones. And when they do, they rake the trash out of their floorboards onto the pavement." Hey Don -- that surely sounds lik…

It is always nice to thank those who have served us. Even "terminated" employees have feelings. If he was a supervisor and worked for 23 years I am sure he contributed something to the company.

"Should the social relationship end, we both agree that we shall not allow the breakup to negatively impact the performance of our duties." ...and therein lies the problem with these situations. There is no way to have that statement have any me…

Wanta bet you do not receive a resignation when she returns from vacation. Oh, shucks, now I went and put a damper on your Wednesday. So sorry, but it is just that I have been there before. I would have grabbed the resignation opportunity, but so…

You have already received some excellent advice here. I just want to stress that it is important to be sure you have not granted a shortened work week to others, as requested by this worker. It may also be important to confirm in writing that her …

"No phone call - but he did send an e-mail this morning that said "I am in the hospital. I can't give you much more information than that right now." That would be enough! Unless he is the owner of the company, termination letter would be in the…

Me, too. The report is off base.

What gets to me is that a bus load of adults, and no one had the blanky de blank sense to say -- I don't think that is appropriate for a group trip, i.e., while the video was running, but they return to work and come running to HR to complain. OK -…

Absolutely fabulous! Take all that great HR knowledge and have some real fun . . . Will miss your .02 a lot!

I definitely would opt for the mediation because I truly believe in the process, BUT I would bring a labor attorney with me. Usually if things are at the point of filing a claim in the first place you want to have the protection of legal minds, if f…

Can't see what kind of price you are fixing in gathering and considering salary information from comparable companies. That is, unless you and the companies are specifically setting prices or you work for Microsoft or something. Salary surveys are…

I know, I know! But I am so tired of taking all the fun out of the workplace. The Holiday Party Team asked me and I said, What the hey, go ahead and have the 50/50. Gotta pick your battles sometimes. Happy turkey day one and all.

Sounds like it is time for a Diversity Training. Always a good idea and can be very helpful to a company. If that is not possible, teach the English only speakers to welcome the new employee and say: "Gee, sounds like you are talking about someth…
