• Hey 1945599 - Were your parents math teachers, numerologists, or just plain mean?
• Lucky for you I don't have feelings, Linda.
•
In my opinion, FMLA is enough to cover family members; we don't need to give more free days so people can stay home.
FMLA is not a practical solution in the vast majority of cases involving the illness of an employee's…
• Linda - Thanks for this! I had not really thought about looking to the IRS on the topic. I have a tendency to check Wage & Hour and let it go.
Look up 'casual labor' on the IRS website or anywhere else and you will note…
• NaeNae nae-ls it! I'm not a huge proponent of CYA, but in this case, I would make sure you print and save any and all records of this conversation. This is an example of why your 'final thoughts' on a potential federal violation should always be v…
• It's too early to know whether this will finally get traction - it hasn't even come close to passing previously. (Rep. DeLauro has introduced this bill each year since 2005; this year's flavor was actually introduced May 18.) Some other key points…
• Is the employee eligible for FMLA? If so, check the new FMLA regs that specifically affect members of the National Guard and/or Reserves. You definitely don't want to get caught on the wrong side of this one.
• Sonny - My reply was not directed at you (I don't think), but was a response to the general notion that liberals are bad for HR and conservatives are good for HR. I probably could have worded it better, but an additional point that I've tried to mak…
• Recent court decisions have held that you can ban weapons in company-owned vehicles, but you cannot ban weapons in private vehicles in your parking lot. I'm assuming this truck driver would NOT feel the need to carry a gun into your building, so th…
• I subscribe to the notion that what makes our job easier in HR isn't necessarily good for the country, and vice-versa. Our 'pain in the butt' could provide justice or an opportunity to someone who deserves it, or could be a measure to ensure the ri…
• I wouldn't be surprised if this keeps getting pushed back for the next year.
• Out of curiosity, how many of you are required (by CBA, for example) to make hiring or promotional decisions based solely on testing?
• Interesting that this decision is being touted by right-wing talk radio as an example of liberal judicial activism. Two points: The decision went against the union; and the decision affirmed the rights of local governments. The last t…
• She's not a seasonal illness - it's always NeedCoffee season!
• Maybe Ron's HR manager uses the site-that-shall-not-be-named. Does he have a confederate flag in the back window of his pickup?
• I'm on it, but I don't use it much. It's all serious and stuff, and I don't have time for that.

• I know if I was faced with eating a fresh, hot Imo's pizza from St. Louis OR a still-frozen just delivered Giordano's, I'd feed the Imo's to my dog. And that would hack him off, because he really hates Imo's. If you pick up a pizza box and you st…
• We're just going to install condom dispensers in the restrooms. Best ROI percentage of any wellness program out there.
• I'll have to put that on my list - I've never been there. I could eat pizza every day... maybe even twice on most days. Unfortunately, St. Louis pizza is an abomination. A thin layer of white velveeta baked on a cracker... Absolutely criminal!
• We do it, but we also make it very clear in the employee handbook and in the policy. We don't want any surprises.
• What's the other half, and how do I get in on it?
• Do you have a 'regular' table at Giordano's yet?
• On a philosophical basis, I agree with most of what has already been posted. However, on a legal basis... you most certainly can count hours. You just can't adjust his pay for partial absences. You control the abuse through y…
• What if you first waive your right to be covered by 29 CFR 825.220 ? ::pb&J:: (feeling ornery)
• When you say 'eligible employees' does that account for the ones who aren't with the company long enough to finish all three steps (or even the first one)? Sonic onion rings rule. I know where I'm going for lunch now!
• I would include the form then. You probably want to have some documentation that you made a good faith effort to collect the data, since you are probably required to file an annual AAP.

• Probably. Do you handle US Savings Bonds? That's often the litmus test for smaller financial institutions.

• We've allowed them in the past, but discourage them now. The biggest issue was that without exception we always end up having at least one ex-employee who left on bad terms show up. It gets ugly.
• There is only one of us qualified to speak on Swine Flu. Pork, where are you?
• We have a very similar 'plan', Dutch. Because we probably have the same (or similar) BCP vendor, or our compliance people went to the same seminar, or something like that. The reality - as I see it, of course - is this... A pandemic plan is, for m…
