Benefits to new employees

Just wondering how different employers get their employees signed up for benefits?  Do you sit down with them on their first day, make an appointment to sit with them closer to the time they are eligible for benefits?  I'm just wanting to make sure I'm handling this the best way possible.

  • sjohnson64, here is a response from BLR's Talent & Communications Manager, Sandi Edwards, SHRM-SCP, SPHR:

    "You can most certainly include benefits as part of day one orientation for newly hired employees. We happen to conduct our benefits meeting closer to the new employee’s eligibility date. It really is a matter of preference as I have seen it done both ways with different companies."
