Time Off

We are a small (aprox 100 employees) consulting firm.  I'm curious as to the size of your company and how your vacation time works.  Do you have Paid Time Off?  Is it accrued?  Do you have separate sick time?  Is there a bank for extended illness?  What holidays do you offer?

We are a IT consultant firm of 77 ee.  We have 17 days PTO for second year employees, 9 for first year--given without regard to hire date, meaning, if you are hired January 1, you get a prorated amount of days but come April 1st (our fiscal) you receive 17 days PTO--no rollover allowed.  It is accrued per pay period but the ee are allowed to use it up front.  If they depart prior to accuring enough time, we collect from their final pay.  We do not have separate sick time as we believe that the 17 days is ample.  We also do not have a bank for extended illness.  Holidays are offered as well--all your standard holidays (7 total), plus 2 1/2 floating holidays given at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  • We have around 65 employees and we pretty much handle it in a way that is considered somewhat outdated I believe.

We have vacation and sick time seperate. Each employee earns 1 day (8 hours) of sick time every two months and begins earning that the first 2 months of their employment. Sick time can be rolled over or accumulated with no limit. This has seldom caused us any problems and is nice for the employees who are not out very often because it allows them to build up plenty of time if the need arises for FMLA.

We give each employee 5 days vacation after 1 year, 10 days after 2 years, and 15 days after 10 years. Vacation time cannot be rolled over.
