Holiday Pay

Can we offer Holiday Pay to our employees if our sister company (we share the same medical plan) does not.  This is a privately held company.  We are 33% owned by A and 66% owned by B.  Our sister company is 100% owned by B.

  • There are no laws requiring any type of holiday pay (assuming you are not a govt entity).  As long as there is no CBA that precludes this, you should be just fine. However, realize that if you offer it and they do not, they will find out and you may have a morale issue in the future.

The only real benefits that take into account other commonly owned company benefits are qualified retirement plans, FMLA and some health/medical/Section125 plans.

  • Thank you.  We are not a government entity; we do no have any unions in house (CBA = Collective Bargaining Agreement?), so we should be okay.  I appreciate the opinion.
