After an employee returns to work and has a follow-up doctor's appointment, do they use sick time to cover time spent at doctor's office?

What state are you in? The answer to your original question is going to be dependent on what state your organization is in. There are some states that will allow to the schedule the appointment outside of normal work hours so that this is not an issue, but other states will not.
