Unemployment Compensation in CT While out on medical leave

CT passed an act last year allowing employees to collect unemployment while out on a medical leave.  Has anyone actually had experience with this UC benefit?  And what are the conditions that allow a disabled employee to collect UC?

  • I know that the CT law allows claimants who are restricted to part-time employment because of a physical or mental impairment to receive benefits. The claimants must offer documentation from a doctor stating that they cannot work full time because of a physical or mental impairment that is chronic, expected to be long term, or permanent. These claimants also must show that their impairment does not remove them from the labor force and that they are seeking and available for work within their specific restrictions. In addition, they still must meet the other eligibility requirements to qualify for benefits. Is this what you were referring to?
  • Yes, that is the Public Act I was referring to.  I know of someone who was out with back surgery and he collected unemp comp for 5 monthsas he was unable to do his required job but able to work in another position.  I have 2 employees going out on medical leave (one for knee surgery and will be out 3 months and the other on maternity).  Thank you for clarifying.  Trish
