Perm Temp EE was Holiday Pay

I am a community bank in Memphis. I have a Premanent Part-Time Teller who would have worked the day after Christmas however, the bank declared the day after christmas a bank holiday. My question is do I owe her pay for this bank declared day?

I don't know that you are required to do so, but we would pay a full time employee. Part time employees here are not entitled to any holiday pay. What has been your policy?

My policy states that part time employees are not paid holiday pay.

Then i would not pay her unless you pay all PT and want to set a prescendent (sp) going forward

We have two different types of part-time employees here: regular part-time, who must work at least 20 hours per week and are eligible for all benefits, including holiday pay, and on-call part-time, who work fewer than 20 hours per week and receive no benefits, so would not be paid holiday pay.

When you say that this is a permanent part-time teller I assume that would be the equivalent of our regular part-timers, in which case our policy would be to pay for the holiday.

In 2012 we did not pay part-time employees for any holiday pay. Thankfully we finally got it approved starting 1-1-13 that all part-time employees are now eligible for holiday pay.
