Offer of Employment

Just a quick question. We made an offer to someone who called and then emailed declining the offer. This person later followed up with a letter declining the offer. Is it still necessary to send them a letter rescinding our offer? I automatically send out a letter rescinding our offer when someone does this and I was wondering if it was really necessary?

I would not rescind the offer, they have declined it in three different ways, you should be covered.

Just me but if I had it in writing that they declined, I wouldn't mess with the letter but then I am lazy too.

I agree that if it's already been declined in writing, it isn't necessary to send a letter rescinding it. You aren't actually rescinding the offer if they've already declined it.

I suppose if you REALLY want to send some kind of letter to document their decision you could send a "thank you" for applying letter and just mention that you "understand their decision to decline the offer" and wish them well in their future endeavours.

I dont think its necessary but if you would like documentation, that would be a nice way to do it.
