Resolved!

Could an icon be created that indicates that the original poster has posted a resolution to the situation being discussed. Often times, someone brings up an interesting question, we offer our advice, and then... nothing.

A little icon like the "flames" for hot topics would encourage posters to follow up and let us know how a situation was handled.

It would be interesting to see if the advice we have given was followed or if "real world HR" results in some other end to the story. We would also learn alot by watching a situation evolve to its conclusion.

That's certainly worth looking at, Paul. It's nice when the original poster ties up the loose end by letting us all know what the outcome was. I guess my big question is whether the posters would really do that with enough consistency to make it a worthwhile addition.

Maybe the fact that there are 57 views and not much response indicated people are shrugging their collective shoulders. Or maybe James just viewed it 57 times.

By the way, I happened on one forum the other day that prohibited further posting on a "resolved" thread - especially new questions appended to old posts.

Brad, I think we need to encourage people to post follow ups and resolutions. Its much more interesting to participate in a thread when you can expect to hear how it all wraps up.

Plus, it would be good to know if the advice we give out here actually works or is actually followed.

Something we do regularly on The HR Forum is utilize polls. So, for example, the admin/moderator (me) can pin a post and allow polling on a myriad of things you choose.

Polls on forums are great. People can add their 2 cents without having to write something someone else has already covered. Good idea.
