OK, I'm probably starting a firestorm with this post, but I am curious as to what others think about this.
So she goes to a mental institution to be re-evaluated every year. Do you think there's a chance in he*% she'll ever get out? She should rot in a dark hole as far as I'm concerned. Mentally ill or not, you have to draw the line somewhere. She should never have the chance to re-enter society. Her kids don't have that chance, do they? And don't even get me started on her sorry husband. How convenient that he has remarried and gone with his life. grrrrr!

No argument from me. Unfortunately, the law doesn't always line up with what we think is proper and just. She ought to live the rest of her life locked up in either a prison or a mental institution. No parole.

How can you believe she is NOT suffering? The more treatment she gets the more she will suffer. The woman has a DISEASE, a mental disease. She did not ask for that. I'm not saying she should be set free, if she ever fully comprehends what she did she will undoubtedly end her own life. I believe a mental hospital is the best and only place for her.

I ddon't know, Larry. Sympathy for the children and the public's anger over their sensless deaths will last longer. I'd say at least 5 years before she walks.

I don't know, John Hinckley is still locked up in an institution. Depends alot on public opinion.

Gosh, I hope she stays in there forever since she was so "mentally disturbed." I think the public outcry would be so severe if she got out in 5 yrs. At least I hope it would be.

What about her (ex)husband? I actually feel more animosity toward him than Andrea. It's immoral and irresponsible to continue to participate in producing children with someone who is mentally ill. Last I heard, he was "getting on with his life" -- with a new woman, of course -- and would like to have more children someday. He needs to be neutered.

If she is able to understand what she has done, there is no jail or punishment that could possibly be worse than having to live with the realization of what she did.

The ex-husband is creepy. There is something about that guy that isn't right.

I saw where he "lashed out" at the prosecution claiming they should not have tried her. That obviously she was ill and needed help. I'm thinking, why exactly did he not give her that help? He's an idiot.

I believe the claim is that she really thought she was doing the 'right' thing by killing them. That is truly sick.

What annoys me the most out of this is not her verdict, or even her husband going on to greener pastures (though there is plenty of anger to go around here). It is that they sought help repeatedly but their HMO said the drug that worked before was too expensive and put her on something else. They pleaded to have her hospitalized to no avail.

If it was me though, I would have managed to pay for the stuff out of pocket one way or another. Of course, they all claim they didn't know she was so bad and the mother-in-law only left her for a few minutes alone with the kids. If she was ok for a few minutes, why not all the time? I guess hind-sight is 20-20.

I don't think anyone in this fiasco is innocent except for the little ones who had no say in the matter. So much focus on Andrea Yates, and not enough on the others. The whole thing is upsetting and depressing.
