Can't aruge with that, ray a. I think it is somewhat a stress release, rather like the characters on M*A*S*H who had to use humor to keep from losing their minds. (Not to say they actually succeeded!)

But you are right. It is a good way to relieve tension. Yesterday, one of our HS kids was removed from the workplace and arrested for stealing $16k worth of parts from us. This after several weeks of investigation. His mother works here and was in my office bawling her eyes out after it happened. Ain't an Advil big enough to cover that headache.

BTW, Ray, I didn't see the rest of your post when I snipped the paranoia post. It's true that some of the things we encounter tend to drive us up the wall. I've threatened to get a Prozac the size of a pancake and wear it around my neck so I can nibble on it all day. And yes, Beagle, it does seem like HR people have a bulls-eye painted on our backs at times.
