Brooke or Tom?

Brooke Shield wrote about her battle with post partum depression and her treatment with the drug Paxil. Tom Cruise blasted her, stating that depression should not be treated with medication, only vitamins. As you may be aware, he is big into Scientology. This has started a war of words between the two actors. My humble opinion is that Dr. Cruise should talk about things he knows something about and leave the medical decisions to those who actually went to med school. Anyone else have an opinion about this?

As Safety says - incoming - and here's the first. The first two posters were, and still are, male. Hopefully we are exempted from the generalization of "most males" - that does give you a little wiggleroom.

I think Dr. Cruise needs a lobotomy. 8-| Several years ago I was diagnosed with depression and Paxil was prescribed. I am now going on month eight trying to wean myself from this drug - at my doctor's advice. The side effects are and have been much worse than the depression I suffered from. Although I am not familiar with any work Brooke Shields has done since she was a child model, I truly sympathize with what she is going through.

Like the man says, before you pass judgement, walk a mile in my shoes.... /:)

I don't have a problem at all with Tom's beliefs. He never said that Brooke wasn't having a real problem, just that treatment should not include prescription drugs. What's wrong with that? There are many people, both male and female, that use alterntative medicine that some feel is "quacky" like herbal, acupuncture, chiropractic, faith healing, prayer. In my mind, whatever works, but each his own.

Just because it isn't a choice that I would make for myself does not mean that it's an option that should be denied to others.

This seems to be a microcosim of the issues facing our culture right now.
