1st snow in NH

It's been snowing for a couple of hours now. Very fine but steady and fast. The ground is looking white as well as the rooftops of the buildings out my window. x:'(

If you're in a 'snow' area, have you received any yet and if so, how much?

Last Fall we had our 1st snow on October 23rd.

All I can say is, I'm sorry. Cleveland has not had any snow yet this season and I hope that lasts for a long time. We get the dreaded "lake effect snow" which is awful!

I lived in Cleveland for three years while I went to law school. I have never, ever felt such cold, biting, face-blistering winds as I felt each winter. The lake effect just pounds that area!

I thought only Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan got that kind of snow! I'm up in the northern part of Wisconsin. We're about one hour away from Duluth, Minnesota - which is right on the shore of Lake Superior. We have been so lucky! So far this year, not one speck of snow! We have had one of the most beautiful falls and it sounds like it will continue througout this week. We're not always this lucky. I know the deer hunters are hoping that we have some by Saturday morning for the opening of the nine day gun season.

Never been there, but I heard Buffalo, NY always gets a couple feet of lake effect snow.

I love the first snow of the year! It's the snow falls after that that I don't enjoy as much. It's all part of living in New England. Today I wish I was in the warmer weather, though. The snow is about 7" deep in my yard. By midweek here it's suppose to be in the mid 50's. The snow will melt quickly.

The only thing one needs to know about 'lake effect snow' is that it's bitterly bone-chilling cold - colder than any other snow. If you've been in Chicago, Cleveland, Akron, Buffalo - you've felt the difference.

Yep that's the worst kind of weather. After hearing about lake effect snow, I'm so glad I live in Central NH; 1 hr away from the ocean. No really big lakes nearby either.

We had 2+ feet of snow in one storm last year but it wasn't windy so we didn't even lose our electricity.

"Lake Effect Snow" is when the wind blows across the lake (as in Erie), picks up the moisture from the lake, turns it to snow and dumps the snow on the east side of Cleveland and up along the north coast of Ohio. If the lake is frozen we don't get "Lake Effect Snow" because there is no moisture to pick up.

We got a light dusting of powder down here about nine years ago. It lasted every bit of two hours. I don't reckon that was 'lake effect', but we all expected at least one whole day off from work.

It would have to be 2+ feet of snow, gale force winds and ice on the roads 1 inch thick for my boss to close the office.

It has already snowed several times here. We are at the Eastern foot of the Sierra's. The ski resorts are already open.

That's the bad news, I am still denying that summer is over.

No snow yet in central MO, but that is not uncommon for this time of year. We have had a few good early morning frosts and one night around 30 degrees. Back up around 60 for the next few days with rain. My better half is leaving early Wednesday morning driving to Washington DC for the remainder of the week. Sure hope the warmner weather holds out for her driving time on the road.

I offered but she prefers her full size GMC Denali. Plus it gets considerable better milage than than the H2. I actually had her at the local chevy dealer this past weekend testing the new C6 (2005) Corvette. Sure does remind me of a viper from the front end. At this point she is more interested in the new crew cab Ford 350 power-stroke dullie King Ranch edition. She really likes the saddle leather interior. You can take the girl out of the county but....

Snow in the mountains but none in the valley, which suits me just fine out here in Salt Lake City. We have "lake effect" snow here too but the drought has been so bad, the Great Salt Lake is now the Not-So-Great Salt Lake. So we haven't have the "bad" lake effect snow in the last few years. I grew up in Louisiana so living here is a REAL adjustment. I must like it. I've been here pissing and moaning about it since 1987. I love your area of the country though. Very pretty. I was just up in Niagara Ralls, ON. the beginning of Octover. Gorgeous!!!

I live about 6 hours east of Niagara Falls. I've been there once a long, long time ago. It was there that I first saw a black squirrel.

You need to come huntin' down here. Black squirrels abound. Red ones too. I once spotted a person from New Hampshire at the mall here. And some folks around here religiously chronicle the sightings of hummingbirds, but I just feed them.

Sorry, I don't hunt for anything except sales! We have only red and gray squirrels around here as well as chipmunks...better known as road kill.

NO snow yet, but almost. It was cold enough over the weekend to snow, but the moisture didn't make it over this way. The east side of NM got slamed.

I live just at the Colorado-New Mexico border and we get enough snow. Wolf Creek Ski area just north-east of us is already opened. Purgatory & Telluride are planning on a Thanksgiving day opening.
