Okay, it's late on a Friday afternoon and I'm tired of working so I'll tell a story.
Several years ago, all of us in the office were in a meeting with our boss. My mind wandered (as it is wont to do) and I didn't hear my boss address a question to me. She had to repeat herself and I realized everyone was looking at me.
I looked up toward the ceiling and, as I was gesturing around the room, said (to the voices in my head), "Hey - do you mind? I'm in a meeting here. Keep it down, will ya?"
My boss threw her pencil on the desk and just roared with laughter. It got me out of an awkward situation and gave her a line to use the next time she was in a meeting with the VP.
