I've worked for a bank for 25 years and all of our branches have always had lobby hours until at least 5:30 p.m. Prior to my coming to work here, they did close the doors at 4 p.m. but had walk-up or drive-up windows open until 5:30 p.m.
I agree with FunHRBanker, I'm sure they could find a bank that was open past 4 p.m., had a drive-through that was open later, or they could go on their lunch. Sounds like just another excuse to ask for extra time off to me!
I've always found credit unions to be even more restrictive in their hours and availablity to withdraw and make deposits!
But anyway, just curious how old is this person? Back in the day I think their were companies that had "pay day activities" - when it was way more common that businesses closed before the ee could go pay his electric bill, etc. But, that was also when most people or it was customary for the ee to cash his paycheck at the bank and then go make the rounds of paying his bills. Again, that is way old school!
I agree with all. Many banks have Saturday and some even Sunday hours now. Any community I've ever worked in also had banks that provided extended hours on Friday to provide this type service.
This reminds me of people who claim they have to leave work early because their day care closes at 5PM. I could not imagine a daycare closing before 6PM to accomodate working people. By the same taken,I can't imagine a bank (in this competitive day and age) closing at 4PM every day!

Encourage them to set up Direct Deposit with their bank and this should help to eliminate the need to be off.
