Basically, SAS is a private company and the top dog has an interesting philosophy on benefits.
- 4 childcare centers
- on staff medical treatment, SAS covers 80 of any other treatment they cant provide
- amazing cafeteria with live piano music
- huge work out facility, volleyball, swim, ultimate frisbee
- a "work/life" center with full time staff who help SAS employees find colleges for their kids, get loans, senior care,
- a 35 hour work week
- much, much more...
Ok, heard enough? Sound expensive and riduculous? SAS is very successful and has a 3 percent turnover (in an industry with 20 percent is norm).
The top dog said "My most valuable assets walk out the door every night and its my job to get them to come back every morning."
One of the employees said, "Sure its a little like living in Disneyworld. But hey, who wouldn't want to live in Disneyworld?"
Oh, if you are thinking of sending in your resume, keep in mind they recieve 15,000 per month.

They also do not have an HR Department and everything is run by supervisors.
This company is only about four hours away from me and I am very tempted to visit them and find out exactly how they do what they do.
Yeah, there were some aspects that seemed cultish in the sense that everyone was so unequivocally positive about the company, the loyalty, the way the company permeates all aspects of life.
Without being on the "inside" its hard to say what the reality is but the numbers speak for themselves.
You also have to admire the way they have INCREASED benefits in a time when most companies were cutting back the extra goodies of the roaring 90's.
I give the top dog (I forget his name) credit for just being different and having the guts to take the road less traveled by.
