Personnel Records

We have many boxes of old files that have been stored and we want to dispose of the ones that are more than 3 years old. Is there a preferred method for record destruction and is there any legal requirements regarding destruction?

Greatly appreciated. Oh, and by the way, if there are records about exposure levels employees were subjected to under OSHA standards, those only need to be kept a mere 30 years. (like we'll even live that long)

An auditor quoted that we had to keep our records for 7 years. I would like to review your document that is specific to each regulation.
