An employee came to me and said he is having seizures - sounds like petit mal - he had 3 he said while he was sitting with me and I had no clue. He is going to a doctor. Question: There is no need for me to get an authorization from him regarding this unless I need to talk with someone else about this, is that correct? Thanks.

The fact that an employee revealed some very personal information to you does not trigger an authorization. He volunteered this information, but you have the responsibility to respect and protect his privacy. His medical condition cannot be shared with anyone else. If he were to ask you later to follow through/check on/resolve a claim with your medical provider, at that time you would need the authorization.

Thanks - that is how I interpreted the law, but wanted another opinion.
