Took today off........opening day for the Kansas City Royals! I will think of all of you while I am at the park having a hot dog. Supposed to hit 70 today. My son and I will have enough fun for all of you. :-)

Man, just twist the knife some more why don't ya. It was 32 in Philly this morning, and we gotta wait a week for the home opener. BUT the first game ever in the new ballpark was last Saturday and the first hit ever was a Jim Thome HR. I was there and if you wrote that in a story no one would believe it. Enjoy your day. Let's play two!!!

Jim Thome is the guy who won the National League Home Run title last year.....minus the steroids I might add. He's the heart and soul of the Phillies.

Gary Cooper = Lou Gehrig (New York Yankees first baseman "Pride of the Yankees" which is baseball)

Don is correct, apologies do need to be made. I now realize that phillies are not junk food like twinkies, they are a sandwich - philly snake or something. No, I follow the "do something every other decade or so" Angels, but interest arrives generally at play off time.

My apologies to Balloonman. I hope you had a great day with your son. These times are worth a million dollars. One of the most memorable times I ever had with my son was one summer when I got a wild hair and decided to take him to Atlanta for three days. We told the 'girls' it was 'boys' only and he and I struck out on the 400 mile trip and took in three Braves games, just us boys. He was 14. I also took him to Hooters in Atlanta for supper one night. He was a hoot cramming that hamburger into the side of his face. Every 14 year old boy should get to go to Hooters once, but only if he takes his dad.

As to taking your son to Hooters, there is no way I could come up with a comment that wouldn't be censored.

Have a great time, Balloonman! On Saturday I took my daughter to a baseball game between my two alma maters, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Soaking up the sun, eating hot dogs, playing catch behind the bleachers -- nothing like it. xclap

Yes, I had forgotten; Giants and Dogers - that's who the Braves played during that trip to Atlanta. We got to see Lasorda get ejected. How many people can say that?????

The most incredible finish to a game I have ever seen in person. Down 7-3 in the 9th, to pull out the victory.
I have been going to opening day since 1997 with my son..................... this is one that will never be forgotten.

Actually next year I am going to twist in the parking lot prior to the game..........my son said it would be cool to watch.............see if I can pay for the day that way!
Hmmmm he is only 11.............but I think I know where we will eat when he turns 14!

I'm glad you had a great time and that the Royals did great. no matter what I will always be a Kansas city fan. You make me homesick I left KC 5yrs ago and do miss the royals and the chiefs. KC fans do know how to have a good time tailgating in the parking lot before the games. What side of the river do you work on?

Fun stuff... I will never forget the exact moment the California Angels clinched their division in 1985. I am in the top row (section ZZ) with my best buds and we work our way down to run out on the field and high-five complete strangers until the cops swept us off the field.

There is no sport like baseball when it comes to creating memories.

p.s. Several weeks later, the Angels became the FIRST team to ever win the first two games of the ALCS and still lose the series.

Wasn't that 1986? That was the year Reggie started congratulating Gene Mauch and then Dave Henderson hit a double to start a rally....right? I'm working off the top of my head here, but that is such a clear memory.

Yahoo, yes I believe. You are correct, 1985 was their year. I was married to my first wife and attending college in Colorado that year. My father was an avid Royals fan and used to listen to every game. The day before fall finals in 1984 I received a call from my mother stating my dad had brain cancer, at 54 years of age. Well, you guessed it; I blew the final in sociology, go figure, because I couldn’t think of anything but my father and his surgery.

Well, to make a long store short, he passed away on Holy Thursday in 1985 and he was not physically at the World Series but I know he was rooting from Heaven! I have never been to a Royals game but just the name Royals brings a smile to my face as I always think of my pop sitting on his front porch, ice tea in hand, pipe in mouth rooting for his team.

I was way off. It was 1982 when the Angels. I think I have mixed a few years worth of memories into one.

I do remember sitting next to a fan who caught a foul ball and then had it passed down to the box seats where Angel's owner Gene Autry signed. Everyone chuckled because Gene put the wrong year down.

Maybe we were related.
