HR Business Plan

I need to put together a business plan for my HR department for 2004. I would want to include a mission statement as well as some goals (efficiency, financial, etc). Do any of you have a format that could help get me started? Or possibly a good web-site that could give me some ideas? Your help will be truly appreciated.

I would do a general search under "Strategic Management." You could look in the HR Hero web site or SHRM site. Sounds like an interesting project. Good luck.

The most effective mission statements, if indeed any of them have a purpose, are those created by the interraction of the entire department in an off-site day long session. Otherwise, mission statements aren't worth the paper they're printed on and you waste the money you spend on black frames.

Thanks for your responses. Don, I totally agree with what you're saying. In my case, however, I have one individual working for me that processes our payroll. I am, in essence, the "department"; therefore I do not have the luxury of brainstorming with others to gather input. That's why I was hoping to get some good suggestions from the forum to help get me started.

Try the SHRM website. They have numerous HR mission statements. These will provide you a starting point or ideas. Sometimes one is able to mix and match to meet their needs to voice the mission of their specific work environment. I don't believe in re-inventing the wheel.

Hi Dixied. I went to that sight yesterday, but was unable to open the statements because I am not a member of SHRM. I tried some other general searches and found some ideas. Thanks for your suggestion though!
