Vacation/Sick/Personal Accruals When On Unpaid Leave

What happens in your companies/organizations with accruals when employees go on unpaid leave? My new employers (District/Circuit/Probate Courts and County Administration) have a policy where vacation and some other benefits do not accrue if the employee takes unpaid leave or stays out more than 30 days. Just would like to gauge common practices. Thanks.

I used to work for a couple of companies where accruals continued even when on STD. Needless to say, those were quite generous programs.

This hasn't come up for us though. Employees have used PTO during the 7 day waiting period for STD but not while receiving benefits.
